Great Game of Business All-Star Awards Finalists

Over the past year-and-a-half, Cherry’s Industrial Equipment has participated in an open-book management program called the “Great Game of Business.” Participating in the Great Game of Business helps us deliver improved financial performance while building an even stronger corporate culture.

Not only did Cherry’s Industrial Equipment realize both the financial and cultural benefits of participating in this program, we were also nominated as a finalist for the Rookie of the Year Award and the All-Star Champion Award. Here’s a look at more about the Great Game of Business program and the related awards.

What Are the All-Star Awards?

The Great Game of Business All-Star Awards help celebrate the results and accomplishments of companies around the world that have participated in the program and embraced the principles of open-book management. The Great Game of Business chooses nominees, finalists and winners based on three measurements:

  • Employee Voice. Companies that participate share a survey with their own employees. This survey measures how well a given company executes the ideas shared in the Great Game of Business. Small companies (10 or fewer employees) must have 100% participation, and larger companies (11 or more employees) must have at least 70% participation in the survey.
  • Bottom-Line Results. The Great Game of Business focuses heavily on improving revenue and overall financial performance. The All-Star Awards consider a given company’s improvement in financial performance since joining the program. Companies that experience the most significant improvement in financial performance are best positioned to become finalists and ultimately to become winners in the All-Star Awards.
  • Corporate Story. Along with financial performance, culture improvement is one of the primary aims of the Great Game of Business. To measure culture improvement, the All-Star Awards take into consideration a company’s story. This includes the narrative behind the numbers. In telling its story, a company might focus on planning processes, scoreboards, employee bonuses, internal recognition and reward programs, and continuing education opportunities.

The All-Star Awards are highly competitive, and nominated companies typically demonstrate impressive survey participation and results, strong financial performance, and compelling narratives that showcase their business’s culture. Cherry’s Industrial Equipment is no exception, and it was rewarding to reflect on our own survey results, financial performance and stories after more than a year in the program.
