SOME ELECTRIC PALLET TRUCKS HAVE AC DRIVE MOTORS OTHERS HAVE DC DRIVE MOTORS. WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO TYPES?
DC drive motors have been used in electric pallet trucks for years and continue to be used due to the lower acquisition and replacement costs. Although larger in size they tend to generate less heat and can be controlled with modern day speed controllers. AC brushless drive motors for electric trucks are well accepted in Europe but are recent additions to the US market. Acquisition costs are higher but are easily outweighed by the infinite speed control, powerful torque range, better energy efficiency, regenerative braking, longer run times, superior reliability, less moving parts and longer battery life.
